Cath Harris – National Merit Award

In 2016, members were delighted to see Barry Sheerman MP present Cath Harris with her Merit Award from the Labour Party, signed by Jeremy Corbyn and Tom Watson.

Barry reminded everyone that Cath had been a member for over 35 years.  Only last year did Cath stand down as Kirklees councillor and Deputy Leader because of ill-health.  She had always been tireless in her support for Labour values, the labour movement and in all the many ways that she knows will make Huddersfield and Kirklees a better place for the people who live here.  All this work and experience enabled Cath to do what she is probably most proud of, which was to be lead on Children’s Services.

Barry recalled the great times he, and we, had had at election times at Cath’s house  where busy activity, good food and laughs prevailed.  The best thing we should celebrate about Cath, he said, was love.  Cath’s particular love for the people she knows and that generous love for her community which shines through what she stands for and what she does.
