Who we are
The Labour Party
The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party. It believes that by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realise our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many not the few, where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe, and where we live together, freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.
We stand for:
• social justice
• strong community and strong values
• reward for hard work
• rights matched by responsibilities
Huddersfield Labour Party
We are a team of volunteers from across the town. We usually meet on the last Friday of each month, when we have a political discussion after reports from our councillors and from MP, Barry Sheerman, or after a talk from a local or national speaker. Members are welcome to all meetings.
We are determined to make a difference to people’s lives: here in Huddersfield, nationally and across the globe. Labour Party members and supporters are out and about most weekends talking to people in Huddersfield and we enjoy meeting up at our regular socials. We host public meetings where national LP figures talk about what matters – to them and to us and to you.
Across Huddersfield, in each electoral ward, people meet together and are involved in local communities. This where most of our campaigning is done. Volunteers deliver our community newsletters; knock on people’s doors to ask if they have issues, concerns and interests; councillors listen and act – and we also get together at social events where we can chat and chew over issues of the day. Like-minded people are valued and welcome.
