Sheikh Ullah

GH_CP_SU_MS_MK.jpgSheikh Ullah  - Greenhead Ward   (Elected 2015 in a by-election. Standing again 2016.)

Sheikh was born and bred in Huddersfield and lives in Newsome. He is married with two young children. He attended Stile Common Junior School and Newsome High School. He is now active as a school governor for Spring Grove JNI School and volunteers at a local secondary school, Moor End Academy.

He has been involved in the community for many years:  as a mentor for students and  representing  patients at his local health surgery as a member of its Patient Participation Group.  He also volunteers as a member of the One Community Foundation that helps to support local groups and charities.  Sheikh has recently been selected as a Magistrate on the Huddersfield Bench.

Sheikh's message: "I believe that as a local councillor I can work to the benefit of all residents of the ward. I have known what it is like to be poor and I know how hard the current government policies on welfare benefits and employment are hitting people, especially the “bedroom tax”.

Like so many of my fellow students from Huddersfield, I had to cut short my legal studies at University because of the Government's crippling tuition fees. As your candidate I will campaign with our Member of Parliament, Barry Sheerman, for a fair deal through apprenticeships and university places for local young people.

I know how worried Huddersfield families are about the closure of essential community services. Through my community work I see every day how the cuts made by this disgraceful Coalition Government are destroying the NHS, police and social care services."

Sheikh says of Greenhead:

  • Greenhead is a great place to live - a good environment, clean streets, and activities for all.
  • There are further reductions of crime and anti-social behaviour.
  • We want to improve education, health and jobs for local people.
  • As your Councillor I have been working all year  with Carole Pattison, and Councillor Mohan Sokhal to protect our libraries, community centres and public spaces.  I have given my full commitment and will continue to do so.
