Proposals being considered by the Greater Huddersfield CCG include the options of closing one or more of the area's A&E departments. The options being proposed include the closure of the A&E department at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary or Calderdale Royal Hospital. Another option is for both A&Es to be downgraded, with services moved to Leeds.
We don't want our local hospitals to become yet another casualty of the government's failed health policy. We want the best possible healthcare for the people of Huddersfield and these proposals are of real concern. There’s a disturbing pattern of closures across the country as a result of this government — real-terms budget cuts are hitting the NHS hard. Over 30% of NHS walk-in centres have closed and pressure on A&E departments is growing. The recent budget indicates that there'll be further cuts to come.
Huddersfield deserves an excellent local health service, and I know people from Huddersfield will want to speak up about this. Let's work together to save A&E services in Huddersfield and Calderdale!
